Errorless Teaching
Also called: errorless learning, errorless discrimination training
Definition
Teaching arranged so the learner makes few or no errors, usually by prompting the correct response immediately and fading the prompt gradually. It rests on the finding that errors are not needed for learning a discrimination and that repeated errors can produce frustration and their own stimulus control.
In plain language
Teaching set up so the learner almost never gets it wrong. Help comes right away and is slowly removed. Mistakes are avoided rather than corrected.
Example
A new word is taught by saying it immediately after showing the card, then waiting a little longer each session before saying it.
Not errorless teaching
Letting the learner guess and correcting each wrong guess. That relies on error correction.
