Fixed-Ratio Schedule

Definition
A schedule in which reinforcement follows a set number of responses — FR 5 means every fifth response is reinforced. It typically produces a high, steady rate of responding with a pause after each reinforcer, and a ratio that is raised too quickly produces ratio strain, where responding breaks down.
In plain language
A reward after a fixed number of responses, such as every fifth one. Behavior is fast, with a short break after each reward.
Example
A learner earns a break after every three worksheets completed.
Not fixed-ratio schedule
A break after an average of three worksheets, sometimes two, sometimes five. That is a variable ratio.
