Level

Definition

The overall value of the data in a condition — roughly, how high or low the points sit on the vertical axis — often summarized by the mean or median of the phase. A change in level between phases is one of the main things visual analysis looks for.

Example

  • Baseline data cluster around 12 per session; treatment data cluster around 3. The level dropped.

Not level

  • Data that start at 12 and fall steadily to 3 within one phase. That is a trend rather than a level change.
