Modeling
Also called: demonstration, video modeling, model prompt
Definition
Demonstrating a behavior so the learner can imitate it. It works only for a learner who already imitates, it is more effective when the model is reinforced and the learner attends, and video modeling — a recorded demonstration watched before or during practice — is a widely used variation.
In plain language
Showing the learner what to do so they can copy it. Only works if the learner can already imitate. Videos can do the showing.
Example
The technician shows how to stack three blocks, then hands over the blocks.
Not modeling
Telling the learner the steps in words. That is an instruction, not a model.
