Response Generalization
Definition
The spread of the effects of training to responses that were not trained but serve the same function as the trained one. Teaching one way to greet may produce other greetings; teaching one way to solve a problem may produce related strategies.
In plain language
You teach one behavior, and other behaviors that do the same job show up too. You never taught those extra ones.
Example
Taught to say "hi," a learner starts waving and saying "hey" as well.
Not response generalization
Saying "hi" to new people after learning it with one person. The response is the same; the new stimuli make it stimulus generalization.
