Scatterplot
Also called: scatter plot, scatterplot analysis
Definition
A descriptive-assessment grid with time of day on one axis and successive days on the other, marked to show when the behavior occurred and how much. Over days it reveals whether the behavior clusters at particular times, activities or transitions, which narrows where to look for the maintaining variables.
In plain language
A grid of days and times, marked whenever the behavior happens. After a while it shows the times of day when the behavior is worst.
Example
Two weeks of marks show almost all incidents fall between 11:00 and 11:30, just before lunch.
Not scatterplot
A line graph of daily totals. It shows how much per day, not when in the day.
